“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.” Psalms 37:5
It’s dangerous to lean on something that is not solid. At a rap concert, people were leaning against a rail separating them from the stage. The rail gave way and the young people fell to the concrete floor below. Those who landed first were then piled upon by those just behind them.
One young lady said that she landed on a person who was on the concrete floor but that three or four people fell on top of her after she landed. She said, “I couldn’t get my breath – I couldn’t breathe. It was really scary!”
It is indeed scary to be leaning on something or someone who cannot hold you up when everything else is coming loose. But those leaning on Jesus will never have to worry about the railing giving way in life! Lean-to relies on support and protection.
Here’s how you can lean on to God:
- L- LISTEN to the Holy Spirit
“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit —the Father will send Him in My name—will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” John 14:26 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
The Holy Spirit will a. Teach – explain or show how to do something; instruct; train b. Remind – to cause to remember We need to pay close attention to what the Holy Spirit is teaching and reminding us to do. The voice of the Holy Spirit will always direct you to do things that glorify God and sanctity His people. It will never bring confusion.
2. E – ESTABLISH Gap from evil
“For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions.
These are not from the father, but are from this world.” 1 John 2:16 From what should we flee from? a. Desires of the flesh-craving for physical pleasure
b. Lusts of the eyes – a craving for everything we see
c. Pride of life – pride in our achievements and possessions.
Free yourself from anything that takes your focus away from GOD (people, things, achievements, work, etc)
3. A – ACKNOWLEDGE your Dependence to GOD
“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:6)
a. Surrender our free will to Him.
b. Admit that His ways are higher than ours.
c. Leave our troubles and burdens and dreams in His capable hands.
Our blessings can easily become our stumbling blocks when we think of them as what we deserve or what we need to be happy.
4. N- NESTLE in God’s Love “You gave me life and showed me your unfailing love. My life was preserved by your care.” Job 10:12. Nestle- settle down comfortably Even in the midst of turmoil.
a. God sticks with us and uses those challenges to shape us.
b. God is still our loving Father who is at work on us.
c. His love is unconditional, trusted and proven.
We can trust in the Lord with all our hearts for He cares for us each and every day. Pursue God – be hungry for His Word; be thirsty for His presence. Consciously commit everything in God’s hands knowing that He works for the good of His children. L-E-A-N to God and He will never ever fail you.
